Tom Tom GPS
Navigation
There is little doubt that TomTom GPS is one of the most
recognized names in mobile GPS navigation. The TomTom GPS
product is known around the world. They are associated with
such products as CityMapts and Route Planner and Smartpath City
which all are essentially trip
planning software and mapping programs. TomTom GPS nav devices
range from their early Navigator to the newest series of
navigation devices.
The company was formed in Amsterdam in 1991 and has
specialized in creating devices and programs used in travel
world wide. Their CityMaps software was among one of their
first products and became very popular for use in cell phones
and many other portable media devices.
TomTom GPS products are mostly mobile types connected to
cars or trucks through their cigarette lighter or other
electrical outlet. They also have new bluetooth capable GPS
devices. These TomTom units need the Bluetooth expansion cards
in some cases to function.
The
TomTom Navigator is the latest of their
GPS mobile navigation products. Their voice navigation is very
handy feature which directs drivers to their destination via
voice prompts on upcoming turns. This is a great aid when
traveling in unfamiliar areas. The TomTom Navigator also has
the capability for re-routing. This is a great aid when making
changes in your route while under way and is especially helpful
on longer trips involving multiple stops.
The TomTom GPS nav system also includes information on
specific points of interest along the way, including
restaurants, hotels and other stops. It also includes very
detailed street map information in the program. Newer releases
even include data on physical addresses as well as phone
numbers and even email addresses of these points of
interest.
Another nice feature of TomTom GPS nav is that the Navigator
screen will not rotate as the car moves. This lessens and cause
for confusion while traveling. These are just some of the
features of the original TomTom Navigator which was one of the
most popular models on the market. Hopefully it gives you an
idea of what to expect from the new TomTom GPS models.
